What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a diagnostic primary health care profession that successfully treats neurological, musculoskeletal, visceral and circulatory disorders. Osteopaths provide a holistic integrative treatment focusing on curative and preventative strategies that views the individual as a whole.

Treatment includes gentle mobilization, articulation and manipulation, to name but a few, to assist the body in its healing process.

All Osteopaths practicing in South Africa are registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA) and have a professional qualification at university level. Due to no degree currently being available in South Africa they come from international recognised institutions.

As a diagnostic profession no referral is necessary. Osteopaths are able to advise on diagnostic procedures such as x-rays or refer to specialist surgeons for further investigation. We work with other health professionals from both AHPCSA and Health Professions Council of South Africa.

Whilst many medical Aids will reimburse for osteopathic treatment it is always better to check with your medical aid if they do.
